Spider veins are caused by veins which become swollen and dilated with stagnant blood. This may be due to hereditary factors, prolonged standing or sitting, or even pregnancy. Changes in the hormonal levels during pregnancy can lead to poor blood circulation. This can cause the growth of spider veins.

Dr. Reese's colleagues use Sclerotherapy to treat spider veins. During the treatment, the vein is injected with a solution and blood is then re-directed into healthy veins around the affected area. Eventually these veins shrink, close and disappear slowly. Dr. Reese’s patients continue to commend his treatment and medication as both effective and safe. There is no anesthetic used either!

Although the tiniest veins might disappear soon, some veins may take on a darker appearance causing a worse appearance. As the veins start to close down, blood gets trapped and causes the bruised appearance. While this is expected, Dr. Reese emphasizes that this will be solved in subsequent sessions. With spider veins, the results are never immediate. It may take as much as eight weeks to see a realistic level of improvement (70-80%). Large veins may take a few weeks to improve.
